CRIME PREVENTION INVESTMENT PLAN (Item. 4.1)
Administration presented a report outlining 2015 Crime Prevention Investment Plan (CPIP) proposed funding allocations of $676,000 for 11 agencies. CPIP provides seed funding to agencies that enhance public safety through innovative crime prevention initiatives, with emphasis on three key priority areas: 1) street issues, 2) children and 3) community capacity building. CPIP is administered through Animal & Bylaw Services.
The CPS Committee unanimously accepted the recommendations in the report.
IMAGINEPARKS – 30 YEAR VISION FOR PARKS (Item 4.2)
Administration presented a report on the imagineParks 30-year vision and strategic planning framework. imagineParks sets the overall direction for the development and management of public parks and open space in Calgary. A key component in developing imagineParks was gathering input from Calgarians and key stakeholder groups on the kind of parks and open spaces they envisioned over a 30 year horizon.
The CPS Committee approved the report and, as a result, it will be brought forward to Council seeking their approval of imagineParks as a guiding framework for current and future Parks planning and management.
BIODIVERSITY STRATEGIC PLAN (Item 4.3)
The 10-year Biodiversity Strategic Plan – Our BiodiverCity provides a local context plan for conserving Calgary’s biodiversity. The plan contains policy and principles for the protection and management of biodiversity to help foster more resilient, biologically diverse open spaces and neighbourhoods for the benefit of Calgarians.
The CPS Committee approved Administration’s recommendations with amendment to add a fourth new recommendation. Administration recommendations:
- Receive for information The City of Calgary Biodiversity Report 2014
- Receive for information Our BiodiverCity, and
- Approve the proposed Biodiversity Council Policy
- Direct Administration to research the appropriate Terms of Reference and framework of a Biodiversity Advisory Committee which would involve broad representation across Calgary and return to the Standing Policy Committee on CPS with a proposed plan no later than 2015 November.
