Alderman Gord Lowe announces his retirement
This morning, my friend and colleague, Alderman Gord Lowe, announced that he will not be seeking another term on City Council.
Since 2001, Gord has served Calgarians in Ward 2 with integrity and compassion. Of course, his involvement with the community can be seen in much more than his work here at City Hall. Prior to his election as alderman, Gord was member of the Calgary Police Commission and chair of the Calgary Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, amongst many others.
As alderman, he has been heavily involved in the workings of Council and The City. He is active on many committees and boards including the Calgary Planning Commission. Most notably, he has served Calgarians well as the steward of the city budget for many years, bringing our budget into the modern age—a critical, and sometimes thankless, feat.
We may not have agreed on every single issue, but I always appreciated his thoughtful insight. There is no doubt that he always put his constituents, and all Calgarians, first through his hard work and decisions.
But we still have nearly six months left as this City Council! There’s lots of work to do, and I know Gord will be there for every moment of it.
